Secondary Principal Weekly Update

I hope that everyone enjoyed the day off in the middle of the week. Despite it being only 4 days, plenty of learning took place on our campus. It was a delight to see digital photography portfolios produced by several students in Mr. Golom’s Tech Class - the thought and quality of the shots is impressive, as is the manner in which students have organized their sites. Congrats to our ACS photographers! I look forward to seeing future projects. 

It was a pleasure celebrating students’ commitment to their learning during the Awards Assembly on Friday. In addition to acknowledging overall achievement, we also granted awards to the top three students who demonstrated the greatest improvement between quarters 1 and 2 this year. This recognition demonstrates that actively working to improve learning yields positive results. Congrats to our award winners!

Please find several updates below:

Mid-quarter Progress Reports will be sent via email on Wednesday. February 12th. These are issued for students achieving at below 70%.

Carnaval dance rehearsals are well underway on Wednesdays - please be sure to mark your calendars and attend our Carnaval celebration on Friday, February 21st.

Eduard Torres of Pathways for Prevention will present two online meetings for parents, one for MS, and one for HS. We are in the process of confirming the dates and will update accordingly. Please plan on participating in these online gatherings.

The schools that participate in our traditional Friendship Games are organizing a "Cultural Convention" that will involve MS and HS students, participating in events such as Knowledge Bowl, Chess, Art, Spelling Bee, and more. Our ACS Coordinator is Daniela Baldivieso who will share additional details in the near future. The event will take place in Santa Cruz, at SCCS, March 13-15.

Friday, March 21st is the final day of Quarter 3, and is a designated parent-student-conference day. Please watch for details as the day approaches and plan on attending with your child(ren).

ACS will host an inter-school Model United Nations (MUN) Conference for HS students April 3, 4, 5. This is a student-driven and student-led event.

Please remind your child(ren) to abide by our cell phone expectations. No phones in MS and restricted use in HS. Please consider reading this recent Harvard publication on this issue.

Espero que todos hayan disfrutado del día libre a mitad de semana. A pesar de haber sido una semana de solo 4 días, hubo mucho aprendizaje en nuestro campus. Fue un placer ver los portafolios de fotografía digital producidos por varios estudiantes en la clase de Tecnología del Sr. Golom. ¡El pensamiento y la calidad de las tomas son impresionantes, al igual que la manera en que los estudiantes han organizado sus sitios! Felicitaciones a nuestros fotógrafos de ACS. Espero con entusiasmo ver sus futuros proyectos.

Fue un placer celebrar el compromiso de los estudiantes con su aprendizaje durante la Asamblea de Premios el viernes. Además de reconocer los logros generales, también otorgamos premios a los tres estudiantes que demostraron la mayor mejora entre el primer y el segundo trimestre de este año. Este reconocimiento demuestra que trabajar activamente para mejorar el aprendizaje genera resultados positivos. ¡Felicidades a nuestros ganadores!

A continuación, encontrarán varias actualizaciones:

  • Los Informes de Progreso a mitad de trimestre se enviarán por correo electrónico el miércoles, 12 de febrero. Estos se emitirán para los estudiantes que tengan calificaciones inferiores al 70%.

  • Los ensayos de baile para el Carnaval están en marcha los miércoles. Por favor, marquen en sus calendarios y asistan a nuestra celebración de Carnaval el viernes, 21 de febrero.

  • Eduard Torres, de Pathways for Prevention, presentará dos reuniones en línea para padres, una para MS y otra para HS. Estamos en proceso de confirmar las fechas y les actualizaremos pronto. Por favor, planifiquen participar en estas reuniones en línea.

  • Las escuelas que participan en nuestros tradicionales Friendship Games están organizando una "Convención Cultural" que incluirá a estudiantes de MS y HS en eventos como Knowledge Bowl, ajedrez, arte, deletreo y más. Nuestra coordinadora de ACS es Daniela Baldivieso, quien compartirá más detalles próximamente. El evento tendrá lugar en Santa Cruz, en SCCS, del 13 al 15 de marzo.

  • El viernes, 21 de marzo, es el último día del tercer trimestre y está designado como día de conferencias entre padres y estudiantes. Estén atentos a más detalles y planifiquen asistir con sus hijos.

  • ACS será anfitrión de una conferencia intercolegial de Modelo de Naciones Unidas (MUN) para estudiantes de HS los días 3, 4 y 5 de abril. Este es un evento dirigido y liderado por estudiantes.

  • Por favor, recuerden a sus hijos cumplir con nuestras expectativas sobre el uso de teléfonos móviles. No se permite el uso de teléfonos en MS y está restringido en HS. Les invitamos a leer esta reciente publicación de Harvard sobre el tema.
