Secondary Principal Weekly Update

 Dear Secondary Community ~

I hope that everyone had a very enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday! It is always good to take time to pause and express gratitude for the people, things, and experiences, that bring us joy. It is my pleasure to share that I have been, and continue to be, thankful to be a part of this community. I greatly appreciate our dedicated teachers and students who work together to ensure that optimal learning is taking place at ACS in a supportive and caring environment.

Please note that this week is the penultimate week of the quarter (December 2-6), and that the final week of the quarter (December 9-13) will consist of a different schedule. During the week of December 9th, school hours will remain the same, with the exception of Friday, the 13th, when students will be dismissed at 12 noon. It is imperative that students attend school as final assessments are taking place in the form of exams and/or projects and/or presentations.

I am very pleased to share with you that we are beginning a new initiative on professional development, beginning this week. We are in the process of securing virtual mentors for each of our five Communities of Practice (CoPs). These CoPs are newly established this year and consist of a mix of staff members and focus on the areas of: Universal Design for Learning (UDL); Data-Informed Instruction (DII); Diversity, Equity, and Belonging (DEB); High-Quality Assessment (HQA); and Multi-Lingual Learners (MLL). The mentors with whom we are partnering have extensive knowledge and experience in their respective areas and will help guide our CoP members in optimum learning in their chosen area of interest. We are confident that teachers and students will benefit from these partnerships.

¡Espero que todos hayan disfrutado mucho de las vacaciones de Acción de Gracias! Siempre es bueno tomarse un tiempo para hacer una pausa y expresar gratitud por las personas, las cosas y las experiencias que nos brindan alegría. Es un placer para mí compartir que he estado y sigo estando agradecido de ser parte de esta comunidad. Aprecio enormemente a nuestros dedicados maestros y estudiantes que trabajan juntos para garantizar que se lleve a cabo un aprendizaje óptimo en ACS en un entorno de apoyo y cuidado.

Tenga en cuenta que esta semana es la penúltima semana del trimestre (del 2 al 6 de diciembre) y que la última semana del trimestre (del 9 al 13 de diciembre) constará de un horario diferente. Durante la semana del 9 de diciembre, el horario escolar seguirá siendo el mismo, con la excepción del viernes 13, cuando los estudiantes saldrán a las 12 del mediodía. Es imperativo que los estudiantes asistan a la escuela ya que se realizarán evaluaciones finales en forma de exámenes y/o proyectos y/o presentaciones.

Me complace mucho compartir con ustedes que estamos iniciando una nueva iniciativa de desarrollo profesional, que comienza esta semana. Estamos en el proceso de conseguir mentores virtuales para cada una de nuestras cinco Comunidades de Práctica (CoP). Estas CoP se establecieron recientemente este año y constan de una combinación de miembros del personal y se centran en las áreas de: Diseño Universal para el Aprendizaje (UDL); Instrucción Basada en Datos (DII); Diversidad, Equidad y Pertenencia (DEB); Evaluación de Alta Calidad (HQA); y Estudiantes Multilingües (MLL). Los mentores con los que nos asociamos tienen un amplio conocimiento y experiencia en sus respectivas áreas y ayudarán a guiar a los miembros de nuestra CoP en un aprendizaje óptimo en su área de interés elegida. Confiamos en que los maestros y los estudiantes se beneficiarán de estas asociaciones.
