Secondary Principal Weekly Update

Dear Secondary Community ~

It is my pleasure to share with you the following highlights from the past week and the week ahead below:

Last Week:

Progress Reports were sent to students and parents on Friday, November 15th, for students currently at below 70% in any course. This practice aims to serve as an alert for students and parents that we need to make some changes to ensure our students are practicing effective approaches to learning and are making progress in gaining the expected knowledge, skills, and understanding in the respective courses. Please do not hesitate to reach out to teachers to better understand what steps need to be taken to ensure students are rising to expectations. 

The high school Friendship Games in Cochabamba were a success! Not only competition-wise, with our students placing 1st in boys soccer, 2nd in cheerleading, and 3rd in girls soccer, but in our students learning the importance of sportsmanship and behaving responsibly while traveling with a team and representing ACS. All coaches and chaperones reflected on the importance of these experiences, the values students learn and demonstrate, and the pride and joy in being a part of these friendly competitions.

This Week:

November is Child Protection/Child Safeguarding Month. This means that during Advisory, Advisors are teaching students about how to recognize and respond to harmful or potentially harmful situations. Students are practicing by considering how they can respond to various scenarios. Students are asked to identify trusted adults and to learn how to be vigilant and pay attention to the environment. Parents are encouraged to speak to their children about the Advisory lessons this week. 

We are very excited to be hosting the Family Day Picnic on Saturday and we hope that our community turns out in full force! I have learned that this event is beloved by our community and I'm very much looking forward to spending an enjoyable Saturday on our beautiful campus. The event begins at 11am and finishes at 4pm, and includes a variety of food options and entertainment.

Final Note:

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank students and parents who are staying in close communication with teachers when questions or concerns arise. It is imperative that students and parents feel comfortable and welcome in bringing matters directly to the attention of teachers. Face-to-face meetings either in person or online, are proving to be very effective in clarifying situations and in coming to solutions.

Es un placer para mí compartir con ustedes los siguientes puntos destacados de la semana pasada y de la semana que viene a continuación:

La semana pasada:

El viernes 15 de noviembre se enviaron los informes de progreso a los estudiantes y padres de los estudiantes que actualmente se encuentran por debajo del 70 % en cualquier curso. Esta práctica tiene como objetivo servir como una alerta para los estudiantes y padres de que necesitamos hacer algunos cambios para asegurar que nuestros estudiantes estén practicando enfoques efectivos para el aprendizaje y estén progresando en la obtención de los conocimientos, habilidades y comprensión esperados en los cursos respectivos. No dude en comunicarse con los maestros para comprender mejor qué pasos se deben tomar para garantizar que los estudiantes estén a la altura de las expectativas.

¡Los Juegos de la Amistad de la escuela secundaria en Cochabamba fueron un éxito! No solo en cuanto a la competencia, con nuestros estudiantes quedando en primer lugar en fútbol masculino, segundo en porristas y tercero en fútbol femenino, sino también en cuanto a que nuestros estudiantes aprendieron la importancia del espíritu deportivo y de comportarse de manera responsable mientras viajan con un equipo y representan a ACS. Todos los entrenadores y acompañantes reflexionaron sobre la importancia de estas experiencias, los valores que los estudiantes aprenden y demuestran, y el orgullo y la alegría de ser parte de estas competencias amistosas.

Esta semana:

Noviembre es el mes de la protección y salvaguarda infantil. Esto significa que durante el Advisory, los Advisors enseñan a los estudiantes cómo reconocer y responder a situaciones dañinas o potencialmente dañinas. Los estudiantes practican considerando cómo pueden responder a varios escenarios. Se les pide a los estudiantes que identifiquen adultos de confianza y que aprendan a estar atentos y prestar atención al entorno. Se anima a los padres a hablar con sus hijos sobre las lecciones de Advisory de esta semana.

Estamos muy emocionados de ser los anfitriones del picnic del día familiar el sábado y esperamos que nuestra comunidad participe con toda su fuerza. He aprendido que este evento es muy querido por nuestra comunidad y tengo muchas ganas de pasar un sábado agradable en nuestro hermoso campus. El evento comienza a las 11 a. m. y termina a las 4 p. m. e incluye una variedad de opciones de comida y entretenimiento.

Nota final:

Quiero aprovechar esta oportunidad para agradecer a los estudiantes y padres que se mantienen en estrecha comunicación con los maestros cuando surgen preguntas o inquietudes. Es fundamental que los estudiantes y los padres se sientan cómodos y bienvenidos al plantear los asuntos directamente a los maestros. Las reuniones cara a cara, ya sea en persona o en línea, están demostrando ser muy efectivas para aclarar situaciones y llegar a soluciones.
